Announcing! The CUL Reference e-list
As announced in the February R&O Forum, the R&O Committee has created an e-list for reference librarians and staff who would like a means to communicate questions, answers, and expertise with their peers within CUL. Last month's discussion about reference networking and communication was wonderful, and this is just the first of what we hope will be a number of means for all of us to tap into each other's knowledge and savvy.
The e-list's address is: culref-l@cornell.edu. Instructions for subscribing can be found here. Two items of note:
• Anyone can join. You don't need to get permission from one of the list's moderators.
• Anyone can post. Even if you're not subscribed, you can still send questions to the list. The only problem is that if whoever answers your question replies to the list and you're not subscribed, you won't see the response.
We're hoping that this list will get used for all kinds of reference-relevant activity. Are you holding a workshop on how best to help researchers with GIS-related projects? Announce it on the list. Stumped by a patron question regarding the history of children's entertainment? Send it to the list.
We'll be watching the list carefully to see if we need to modify our open posting and subscription policies; we'll also be periodically culling any non-Cornell email addresses to try to keep a solid signal/noise ration. But if you're a reference librarian or a member of the reference staff, please take the time to subscribe and contribute. We think this list has a lot of potential to help us get to know each other better, and to help us serve our patrons better.
