PUBLIC SERVICES EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (PSEC)

Charge

The Public Services Executive Committee (PSEC) represents the needs of the library user communities to the Library Administration. It is responsible for coordinating public services activities within CUL; recommending policy; defining goals and objectives related to public services activities; and fostering responsive and innovative services which may be delivered in person or virtually over the web.

PSEC coordinates activities and collaborates with staff in areas such as Collection Building, Information Technology, Library Operations, and Research and Assessment.

Membership

The Public Services Executive Committee is comprised of a Steering Committee, Standing Committees, and representatives from functional areas. The Steering Group is composed of public service representatives from the following CUL clusters:

  • Olin/Uris
  • Rare and Manuscripts
  • Kroch Asia
  • Life Sciences
  • Engineering/ Math/Physical Sciences
  • Hotel/ILR/JGSM
  • Law
  • Africana/Fine Arts/Music

Representative for each cluster will be appointed by the Director of each cluster. The Steering Committee is led by a chair and an incoming chair who serves as co-chair. Membership is on a three-year term basis with the option of renewing for a second three-year term.

The Public Services mandate includes areas such as reference services; instruction; research consultations; circulation; outreach; and public computing.  As such, the Steering Committee oversees the work of the following PSEC standing committees:

  • Reference and Outreach Committee
  • Instruction Committee
  • Access Services Committee
  • Public Computing Advisory Committee
  • Web Advisory Committee

This oversight includes working with the standing committees to coordinate the call for PSEC standing committee volunteers and choses membership for these committees. The standing committees work closely with the steering committee, discussing committee goals, progress toward those goals, and outcomes with the steering committee.
